FP1 is proud to have served as the media consultant to Maga Kentucky’s $7 million independent expenditure in Kentucky’s Fourth Congressional District (KY-04). Defeating recalcitrant Congressman Thomas Massie was a top priority of President Trump and his senior advisors, Chris LaCivita and Tony Fabrizio. We relished the opportunity to pound Thomas Massie with a series of hard-hitting ads.
By the spring of 2025, it was clear that Thomas Massie was more interested in being a thorn in the side of President Trump and his Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives than being a loyal soldier committed to advancing the America First agenda. With a slim majority, Massie’s grandstanding tactics were a real threat to President Trump’s legislative priorities, including his signature tax cuts and border security policies. Something had to be done to solve the Massie problem. But defeating an eight-term incumbent is never an easy task. Massie had been winning the votes of Kentucky conservatives for a very long time. He had a brand and base of loyal supporters in KY-04. In fact, President Trump had called for Thomas Massie’s defeat in 2020, only to see the defiant Congressman win the GOP primary with 81% of the vote.
Recognizing that Massie had a strong base of support, our first ads of the campaign started with the question on everyone’s mind: What happened to Thomas Massie? This framing gave voters who had long supported Massie a permission slip to abandon him. It was an important strategic move that added credibility to our advertising out of the gate. Throughout the rest of the IE, we maintained ruthless message discipline. Virtually every ad hammered away at Massie for opposing President Trump’s tax cuts, voting against finishing President Trump’s wall and hiring 3,000 new border agents, and voting against President Trump’s efforts to ban taxpayer-funded sex changes on kids.
After President Trump held a rally inside Massie’s district in March, we cut a devastating ad featuring the president’s epic takedown of Massie from the event stage. As part of our innovation push inside FP1 Labs, we created a biting satirical ad with AI that depicted Massie being in a throuple with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. In a memorable line of copy, we declared that Massie was cheating with the Squad on the America First movement.
Our television, digital and radio advertising during this bare-knuckled street fight of a campaign won a total of 12 creative awards, including the Reed Award for Toughest TV Ad.
Watch our Maga Kentucky ads:
On May 19, Captain Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, fifth-generation Kentuckian and conservative farmer, defeated Congressman Massie by a margin of 55% to 45%. Captain Ed Gallrein will be a significant upgrade from Thomas Massie, and we wish him well during his service in Congress. We’re also grateful for the trust that the Trump team put into our firm. This was a high-stakes campaign that sent a powerful message that politics is a team sport and President Trump is the coach, captain and MVP of the Republican Party.
