FP1 Celebrates: National Intern Day

By FP1 Strategies

In recognition of National Intern Day on July 31, we’re highlighting the contributions of our summer intern, Cooper Dick. Cooper joined our team at the beginning of June and quickly learned the ropes, getting involved in every facet of our production team. He helps proof our ads, print materials for our new business pitches and even meticulously sorted through our prop closet, organizing and labeling hundreds of props ranging from briefcases and hard hats to kids’ backpacks and of course, American flags.

“Interns at FP1 take on real responsibility from day one,” said Director Mattie Beckis. “They contribute to proofing, research, writing, pitch preparation and production logistics. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on environment that offers a clear view into how creative and political work gets done. For anyone interested in politics or advertising, it’s a front-row seat to the industry in action. Our internship program offers exposure to so many different facets of the work, and over the years, I’ve seen it open doors to a wide range of careers.”

“Cooper is smart, hardworking and detail oriented, and has been a great addition to the team this summer,” said Associate Lyukai Nomura, who started at FP1 as an intern during the 2022 election cycle and was offered a full-time position upon graduating from Virginia Tech in 2023. “It’s encouraging to see how impactful opportunities like this can be for someone’s professional development.”

We appreciate all of Cooper’s contributions to our team this summer and wish him well as he heads back to LSU for the fall semester.

Read this lightning round Q&A with Cooper Dick.

What year are you at LSU and what is your major?

I am a rising junior studying political communication with a minor in political science. Geaux Manship!

What was your favorite memory while interning with FP1 this summer?

My favorite memory has been being able to produce some spec ads for our fellowship project, helping lead our group to victory.

What is your favorite FP1 ad you’ve watched?

Grocery Store for Katie Britt. I think it is really cool how we used the grocery store to show more of Britt’s personal life while still hammering home the issues of inflation and overspending by the government.

Favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge?

Nothing better than some catfish and boudin from Parrain’s.

If you could have dinner with one historical figure, who’d it be and why?

I would want to have dinner with the Kingfish, Huey P. Long. He was such a colorful character in Louisiana politics — staging a complete takeover of the state government — and his impact is still felt on the state to this day. I would love to be able to sit down and pick his brain.
