Honoring Labor in the New GOP Coalition

By FP1 Strategies

Labor Day is more than just the unofficial end of summer. It’s a day to honor welders, waitresses, bartenders, truckers, nurses, factory workers and small business owners — the people who make up the backbone of America. These are the men and women who power our economy, build our communities and embody the spirit of hard work.

In the 2024 election, working-class Americans showed up decisively for President Trump. Exit polls were unmistakable: young people and those making under $100,000 backed the GOP in historic numbers. What was once a Republican coalition rooted in the college-educated, professional class has shifted into something new. Today’s GOP is powered by non-college-educated Americans, by young people entering trades and apprenticeships and by working families who feel left behind by corporations and career politicians.

This political realignment didn’t happen by accident. Rising tuition costs and crushing student debt have pushed more young people toward the trades and away from higher education. The GOP has been the party willing to stand with them, redefining what it means to “honor labor.” Today, Republicans are the party of the working class.

And that’s the story we’ve told in campaigns in all the battleground states. The Republican Party is no longer the party of the boardroom and the country club. It’s now the party of the factory floor, the family farm, the shop on Main Street and the church pew.

Last November, working people voted for change and brighter futures for their families. President Trump and the Republican Congress delivered. The One Big Beautiful Bill is one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in American history. It provided $4.5 trillion of permanent tax relief, unleashed American energy production to lower inflation and secured the border to stop illegal immigrants from imposing new burdens on taxpayers.

For working- and middle-class Americans, the wins are direct and tangible: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, an expanded child tax credit, no tax on Social Security and a new tax deduction for interest on loans for cars made in the USA. The bill also expands apprenticeship grants, tax incentives for building new factories in America and penalties for companies that offshore jobs. By unleashing a new era of American energy dominance, the One Big Beautiful Bill will lower costs for families and create thousands of new jobs for laborers, rig operators, truck drivers and engineers.

As we head into another pivotal election year, our mission is clear: We’re going to help our candidates relate to the working class by highlighting the monumental legislative wins inside the One Big Beautiful Bill. This was a tax cut for working people. It’s a tax cut that will strengthen American manufacturing and small businesses. It’s a tax cut that the GOP can run on and win on in 2026.

Labor Day reminds us that the story of America has always been written by its workers. This year, we’re even more inspired and determined to make sure that story continues to be told with pride, grit and optimism.
